PratikYedek for law firms
A real scenario
A 4-attorney law firm in Ankara (anonymised reference: Firm-A) suffered an office NAS failure at the end of 2024. The 380 GB volume held ~2,300 active case files, 1,700 contract PDFs and four years of hearing minutes. Hardware-recovery vendors could rescue only 63% of the data. Three ongoing criminal cases lost their supplementary submissions and had to be postponed; one client terminated the engagement.
Root cause: A single-disk NAS without RAID-1 + the last backup was nine months old on an external disk left at home.
How PratikYedek solves it
- Install the desktop app — Windows/macOS/Linux. Select attorney folders (
Cases/,Contracts/,Client-Communication/). - Schedule a daily automatic backup — End-of-day (18:00) as default. Optionally add a midday (12:30) extra.
- Client-based folder structure — One folder per client; folder name =
[Client-Code]-[Surname]. The audit log records which attorney backed up which file when. - Triggered backup for powers-of-attorney + hearing minutes — Backup runs the moment the file changes.
- Restore drills — Quarterly a random case file is selected and a restore test is run (the system reminds you).

Special sensitivity
Attorneys Act art. 36 and Union of Turkish Bar Associations Professional Rules art. 43 treat attorney-client communications as subject to a duty of confidentiality. PratikYedek's end-to-end (zero-knowledge) encryption means even server administrators cannot read your files — full compliance with the confidentiality duty.
- KVKK § 6 (Turkey's GDPR-equivalent): Files containing criminal records and health data are sensitive; the additional encryption layer is already provided by AES-256-GCM.
- KVKK § 12: Data security obligation; PratikYedek provides audit log + WAL+PITR + 3-disk replication.
- Audit-share mode — Not for tax audits but for court orders or bar disciplinary requests; a time-limited share link can be generated.
Recommended plan
- Sole practitioner / small firm: Professional (100 GB storage, 2FA, unlimited client folders)
- 3+ attorneys, enterprise structure: Enterprise (500 GB+, team management, SAML/SSO, 10-year audit retention, IP allow-listing)
For client data transfer (changing firms) the transfer-package mechanism described in Taxpayer transfer works the same way for client files — only the category name differs.
FAQ
Is it legal to store attorney-client files in the cloud? Yes, as long as it is end-to-end encrypted the duty of confidentiality is not breached. Because the server administrator cannot see the content, it does not count as "disclosure to a third party."
Does data leave Türkiye? No. All PratikYedek servers are inside Türkiye (no KVKK § 9 cross-border issue). See Data residency.
What happens to files when an attorney account is deleted? KVKK § 11/e — the deletion request triggers irreversible chunk removal after 30 days retention. However, if a disciplinary or court case is ongoing, the retention_locked flag prevents deletion (evidence preservation during judicial proceedings).
